WES School Counseling
Mrs. Jurkowski's Counseling Corner!
I am so excited to kick off the new school year! Before coming to Woodridge, I served as an elementary counselor for Brunswick City Schools. I am extremely honored to be part of this wonderful district and I hope to be able to work together with you to help your child reach their full potential both academically and socially.
I will always keep the counseling section of our school's website updated with information that might be helpful to you and your family as well as all of the programs and services offered through the guidance department.
Feel free to contact me at anytime with questions or concerns you might have regarding your child or the counseling program. I look forward to working with you and your child.

About Mrs. Jurkowski
I can't believe it's time to start another school year!
I am from Green, Ohio where I have lived most of my life. I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. I continued my education receiving my Master's degree in School Counseling from The University of Akron.
I started as a school counselor in Brunswick at Applewood Elementary. After being there for two years, I joined the Woodridge team and I am so honored to be a part of this district! I absolutely love my job and the children who walk into our building! There is no other place I'd rather be.
I currently live in Green, Ohio with my beautiful family. My husband, Steve, is a firefighter for the City of Tallmadge. We have four children.
I love to read, travel and walk outside. My favorite color is purple and I'm a huge Ohio State fan. Go Bucks! My biggest passion is working with children and I am looking forward to another awesome school year!
Why Elementary School Counselors?
Elementary school years set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, counselors work as a team with the school staff, parents and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere. By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, school counselors can help all children achieve academic success. The professional elementary school counselor holds a master’s degree and required state certification in school counseling. Maintaining certification includes on-going professional development to stay current with education reform and challenges facing today’s students. Professional association membership enhances the school counselor’s knowledge and effectiveness.

• Conducting small group counseling sessions.
• Consulting with teachers and parents to meet student needs.
• Providing families with community agencies and resources.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
Prior to working at WES (previously WPS!), I was a high school counselor at Valley Forge High School in Parma. Many are surprised to see such a big jump in age-levels in this profession; from the biggest kids to the littlest! Before beginning my school counseling journey, I worked as a preschool teacher at The Goddard School in Medina while also working with children aging from 6 weeks to Kindergarten. I love working with all kids--regardless of the age.
I receive my Bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Bowling Green State University. After working in child care for a few years, I decided to pursue a Master's degree in School Counseling through Capella University. It is certainly one of the best decisions I have ever made!
